Visting rites ( Susan Musgrave)
This short story is about the author visiting her husband in prison and the first thing that grabs my attention is the title "Visiting Rites" which is a pun on the term visiting rights. Words and phrases such as betrayed, "the lonely long distance between us," sadly and trembling help to invoke a depressing feeling upon the reader. Although I don't have any relatives in prison and have never visited one this story definitely left little to no room for imagination regarding the experience.
