What is this thing called family ? (Lee Herrick)

In this short essay, Lee Herrick writes about his experience growing up as a Korean adoptee with Caucasian parents in America. He details the bullying he would receive from the other children at his school which entailed comments such as "what are you?" And "flat face." This essay resonated with me because while going to primary school I was a victim of a similar type of bullying and even though I was able to overcome that similar feeling of being an outcast the experience has taught me that I need to be mindful of what I say to persons but especially children.
