A slice of life ( Russel Baker)

The title of this essay gives the impression that it's about experiences of human life so I was completely surprised to realise the author was about to describe the "art" of carving a turkey. The reader is encouraged to wrap one hand around the turkey's thigh while seizing its torso with another hand and screaming. The author also encourages the reader that an axe can be used instead of a meat cleaver but the procedure would have to take place on the cement walk outside the house to preserve the table.

I can definitely say whichever essay was my favorite before I read "A slice of life" is no longer my favorite. The descriptive writing, coupled with humor and sarcasm was perfect so I could read it multiple times and still find value in Russell Baker's writing.
